2 public spaces at its best

I remember in Iarc we watched this video in Anna Marshall-Baker's class about shared public spaces in urban environments. Since this video I have caught myself being way more cognoscente of these spaces.

While in Atlanta, I spotted this pretty groovy designed space near the Target in Atlantic Station. I love the vividly colored sunshades juxtaposed against the very hard lined concrete seats.

Another cool Public space I saw recently was in Aarhus, Denmark in the middle of all the shopping pedestrian streets. It has several different levels of seating spread out on the steps leading down to the canal.

I was walking this morning and the perfect breeze blew on me. I dreamed for a moment that I was on a beach vacation. Then I was abruptly brought back to reality when a DART bus zoomed by.

Since I won't be taking a beach retreat anytime soon, maybe the Urban Oasis at Za Za is a place to hang out... or if I wanna take it a lil more low profile, an inner tube, mojito, and my apt pool could work nicely as well. Don't forget the sunscreen this weekend!

how does your garden grow?

I was talking to my mom the other day and she said that for mother's day she would like someone to help her plant her garden. Then I got to thinking about my rut of an outside patio. This is a place that my mom has actually spent alot of time in when she is visiting me (and helped me put the patio part together). And since I can't go to NC for mother's day I wanted to redo my garden, so maybe she can get more enjoyment out of it when she is here. Maybe I will make it more enjoyable and use it too. I have always wanted some herbs.

Now I don't even know where to start and since it is a rental I am skeptical as to invest to much time and money out there. Maybe a modular solution I can take with me? I was looking through a few websites and found this one based out of the UK that does beautiful work. Modular Garden, and although this is not anything close to what I am capable of at this point in time.... I am bookmarking it away for a later date. glorious huh?

brown thumb no more

I have a problem with keeping plants alive. Pretty much, I have the opposite of a green thumb. This is really sad because I really do love plants... and would love to have fresh herbs to cook with. So, you can imagine my happiness when I found these GroBal pots designed by Karim Rashid.

They have this watering system that lets you know when the water is low and you need to rewater them. And like all of Karim's designs the are are fun and colorful in that blobject form.

beauty in the city

yesterday was flower day and so we took a field trip down to the "flower district" a row of wholesale flower shops to stock up. These are a few photos I took on the last cold cold january day in NY (which marked the first time in many years that NYC had No snow in January).

garden stool

I bought this little garden stool at Target today. I couldn't resist the $30 price tag. I know I don't need it, I shoulda been saving and not giving into the mindless consumerism like the very strong willed Joslyn. I figure I loved it seeing it on the commercial and it is rather cute. And it is also multi-functional cocktail, side table, seat (although the boys seem to think that they will break it sitting on it.) and no I don't really have a garden. Ok, I am done justifying. I am just goin to stay outta Target for a while.

Cinderella

Fletcher and Myburgh designs have these very fun, sculptural swings for your interior or garden. They are quite the pretty penny, but this particular one can be fitted with interior lights and a music box. I guess with enough money anyone can be Cinderella!
