wishlist

well... kel, here is what is on my wishlist for this year. That is if I win the lottery.... or the country digs itself out of debt.
Yesterday I had a craft day with Ben and finished my christmas presents for my immediated family. We taught ourselves to screenprint... that's all I am saying (Covering #4 and #11 in one hit)

I would love something handmade myself but here are some other things too:

1: Wearstler: Modern Glamour
2: Tikoli kitchen towel, it is just so cute
3: Jonathan Adler's book
4: American Airlines giftcard... because I hate paying for my own travel but love to do it!
5: Tory Burch flats: because you can wear them everyday, and these are on sale
6: adorable, Amy Butler pincushion, because my tomato pincushion isn't cutting it anymore
7: I LOVE this dress from Lemonstory
8: Moleskin plain sketchbooks in these new very cool colors! I am partial to the lime greens
9: Because Paris is always inspiring. Paris 1962

But at the very top of my list... which I think I am buying for myself when the christmas sales go on.... a cruiser bike.

Vegas Boneyard

A week ago I was in Vegas for a little pre-pre set up and we had some very rare downtime one day. Oh the luxury! Gregg had wanted to go to the Morelli house for sometime and I had wanted to check out the Vegas neon boneyard. We were going to attempt to do both before we had to head to the airport.

We almost didn't get to do either because of the strict appointment policy that both of them have. WE did get to go to the Boneyard because we begged and pleaded and used out god given patience and waited it out to see if there were any no-shows so we could go in. as luck would have it we did.

I took some really rad photos and am really excited about them so I made a lil coffee table book at blurb. You can get one too if you are so inclined. Just follow the link in the column to the right labeled from erin.

PreFab Now

Better Living through Design is always pretty interestting. This book is appealing to me because I am slightly obsessed with prefab houses. This one is goin on the wish list.

maps... (and no im not talking about the Yeah Yeah Yeahs)

I leant out one of my most prized possesions to Ben last night for his trip this weekend. My NYC pop up map (think joey from friends in London without the 3D landmarks). It is small discreet and even includes a subway map!!

After threatneing him if he lost it, I got to thinking about how I really might have a healthy (or unhealthy) obsession with maps, My 5th year Iarc thesis even included maps as part of the concept! Then I remembered this book I ran accross a while ago via Black eiffel. I think it would be a great addition to my library.

Meanwhile, I am on the lookout for MY upcoming trip to London, Copenhagen and Aarhus! Please let me know if you have any ideas.

101 Things I Learned in Architecture School

I know we went to school for a degree in INTERIOR architecture, but with at least half of our faculty having degrees in ARCHITECTURE, I feel like we got a lot of these tips / lessons along the way, as well.

One of my bosses sent through a few pages he'd scanned from "101 Things I Learned in Architecture School" by Matthew Frederick. These two were my favorites, and we can definitely relate.

goal...

I have always been intrigued by screen printing... its a skill I would like to learn in my lifetime. I saw this book via Sia Grafica, Print Liberation:the screen printing primer. Other than a good place to start to learn more about screen printing, Print Liberation looks pretty rad from what they have on their website.

i draw pictures all day

I was checking out our marketing department catalogs the other day looking for images and found Veer. They sell stock photo, illustration, and type. But they are just general lovers of design. they have a small merchandise section with some pretty cool stuff, t shirts, sketchbooks, jewelry, cameras... but I especially love these sketchbooks! says it all right?

who needs sleep??

Have you ever had one of those sleepless nights where your mind was completely racing with ideas and craziness? What is even more frustrating is when you have one of those nights and you are seemingly unstressed about anything else! Last night (and I am pretty sure it had little to do with the time change) I could hardly sleep. My mind was racing with ideas as to how to build a cheaper work space for my apartment, and the easiest pattern for me to sew a slipcase for my laptop and then I started thinking about that bed I wanna build by the end of the year.

When I have one of those ideas, laying in bed or not for that matter, I am so thankful for my little moleskin sketchbook. Those things get me through... they all even have a cool little pocket in the back for [flat] treasures. They are the perfect paper weight and are just right. I found this particularly helpful when I was abroad and kept sketches, my journal, postcards, rubbings, photos and cool collections of stuff in there. I wish they made them in colors though so you could distinguish them from one another.

So.... my advice, never leave home with out a pencil pouch, gluestick and most important, sketchbook [moleskin] love it!

[essential since our names are in it!!] I really want to expand my library overall, a few books I would like to add are [clockwise]: Snow Show book, Domicilium Decoratus, In the Pink, I like you: Hospitality under the Influence, Modern Glamour, and Hip Hollywood Homes.

erin's travel bag #4

books... always a necessity in my bag. Last night I went to Half Price books (because I am poor) and snagged 2 to take with me this week on my journey home for Thanksgiving. I got Me Talk Pretty One Day, by: David Sedaris and Zoology, by: Ben Dolnick. We will see how they are! yay!

Hostess

Not sure how you stumbled upon this site... but I LOVE IT!! Hostess with the Mostess guide to fabulous finds and more for contemporary entertaining. So cute... I love her fun, playful aesthetic. Yesterday she posted the cups above Daydream Cappuccino Set from bud™ by designroom. So fun you would just want to put it out on your counter all the time!

This brings me to another book on my wishlist... Amy Sedaris I Like You: Hospitality under the Influence I have watched interviews... read excerpts and reveiws and I really want it soo bad. Everytime i go to buy it I am flat broke though. I keep looking for it at the Half Price Books. I think I need to just bite the bullet and buy it.

Benihana and I went to the Kimbell and The Modern in Fort Worth on Sunday. I got duped... well not really. We went to the Kimbell first and I offered to pay there if he paid at the Modern. He reluctantly agreed thinking that I knew I was getting the better deal. As the lady was running my card, Ben starts making small talk about how busy it is that day. The lady then informs us that it is free day at the Modern... I got duped.

We did a quick tour of the Kimbell as we really wanted to go to the Modern more. The architecture was pretty ingenious as to how they were able to let natural light in, while still protecting the art. The Modern was really fun. There was an exhibit by Ron Mueck. It was disturbing, thought-provoking and very cool all at once. The picture below is one of the statues on exhibition. So, lifelike. I thought they would turn and talk at any moment. and he was a creator of puppets in the Labyrinth.... I knew I liked this guy!!

The building itself was very cool I'd rate it in my top ten favorites. Good thing Robert made us research that one! It was strange knowing the floor plan and never having been there. It would be a great place for a special event.

To make up for the admission fiasco I got a book out of it. World Changing:A Users Guide for the 21st Century. Its a big book... but i'm thinking I'll get alot out of it.
