Ryan

Ben sent over the link to his long time friend Ryan's freshly launched website. I knew Ryan was talented, but these are incredible.... and fun to look at. The diptychs he has created on his site are pretty rad too.Ryan has also started doing wedding and event photography. So if you know anyone, pass on the word.

i'm back!

My apologies for the extended hiatus on posts out of Charlotte - I've been distracted by all of the right and wrong things, but that's life, right?

In checking-back in with the blogging world, I've missed a couple great weddings, in terms of photography. Just came across this one from Mary Kate McKenna- I love the details! I love the style of his suit, and the fact that it is gray, and I love that both of them have this vintage-modern appeal that is totally emphasized by the purple tie and yellow flowers! For whatever reason, the people and the clothing seem a little dated (in a good way) and the style of those yellow flowers with the pop of purple give it that great contemporary flare :) I might be way-off on this one, but I love it none the less.

* PS: check out their rings from Etsy!

On another note, Braedon posted some photos from an all-white wedding he did with Jessica Claire. Both are amazing photographers, which I think was probably pretty helpful to pull-off this kind of wedding. I guess this is one instance where it's okay to where white as a guest to the wedding :) I love it - I hope that someday I can take such an idea so simple and clean and use it in my kind of wedding. Keep the focus (from the beginning) on keeping things minimal, and just go with it. Love it!

it's wedding season!

Sorry I've been MIA for a little while... besides being preoccupied with this that and the other, it's wedding season and I've been totally absorbed in all of the great photography to be seen from it.

This weekend I had the pleasure of attending one of our sorority sister's weddings in Winston-Salem. It was really cute- a Catholic wedding in a really adorable little church, followed by a reception in an art center, I think. It was a very-much pink + orange color scheme and the reception hall was beautifully decorated- the linens, flowers, accents, and decorations all around matched so well. All of these paper lanterns / lights were apparently hung the night before by a few people, including the mother of the bride who has a broken ankle or something! Such a trooper...

I've pretty-much decided that the second I get engaged I'm calling Mary Kate and scheduling my wedding around her availability... you know I stalk these photographer's blogs, but her photos tug at my heart like no other. Hopefully she'll be doing weddings for a long time because I haven't even found someone to marry, but I would have a wedding just to have her photograph it!

mark brooke

Mark Brooke is a photographer, like a few others, who has a blog that I check... almost daily. Still forever-far from my OWN wedding, let alone engagement photos, I have an obsession with the variety of styles that I've seen in these *romantic* portraits!

Mark Brooke seems to have a vintage style in his- or at least the end result of his photos do... Not sure if it's the clothing the couple chose or the photography style that makes this session so cool, but I love it either way :)

Nikki + Seth

It's fairly obvious that I stalk wedding blogs, both wedding design + photography, despite the dangerously-far distance I've got before my marriage (part of which includes finding someone TO marry). That said, it's like a movie - it happens, but not to anyone I know... except Katie, but she'd been engaged for 4 years before the wedding and almost 6 months before we got to know each other, so it never really sank-in.

This changed today when Nikki (from i.arc) sent me the link to the dress she'll be wearing on June 7th when she weds Seth, in her grandfather's yard (how cute!!!), and the jacket he'll be wearing, as well. It's like when your friend has a baby- suddenly your group and age range becomes one of them..instead of just the token girl who takes the first leap in that direction (Katie). This girl is totally laid-back and relaxed, so it's completely appropriate that she'd have a gorgeously laid-back and simple dress (courtesy of JCrew) and he'd have a matching seersucker jacket - it's that simple-casual-preppy look that goes so well with a small family wedding. I'm so happy that she's staying true to herself through all of the excitement and tendencies to go overboard that come with planning / hosting a wedding.

M.I.A.

Sorry I've been missing in action- I've been totally overwhelmed with this puppy and the exhausting similarities she carries to a newborn baby... getting up at night, "changing diapers" (aka: house-training + cleaning up mistakes), all of the whining, attention needed, feedings, worrying about a parasite, medications, vet appointments, etc... I'm totally worn-out, but having my family in town for Memorial Day Weekend was the best break I could've asked for. I was definitely heart-broken when they left Monday morning...

my twin sister, meagen, getting to know (love) jane at the park

we took jane swimming for the first time- the "doggie paddle" was too cute for words!

Anyways, while glancing through blogs this morning I came across this wedding from notes from the road. It generally isn't really my style- more lace / details / girly accents then I'd probably pick for myself, but it looks perfect none the less and makes me re-think my dream wedding just a bit. Fortunately, I've got more than enough time to get things figured out, and should probably focus my efforts towards dating for the time-being.

I just LOVE how this cake echoes the style of the dress so well!

Jessica Claire + My Dream Wedding

You'll see me talk about Jessica Claire, one of my favorite wedding photographers to date, and the amazing photographs she manages to take away from every and any wedding. Most of the time there are things that I like from each one, but it seems to be more about the photography rather than the decor / style of the wedding.

In this case, it's all of it. 9 things out of 10 make up my 'dream wedding' here- the colors chosen, the style, the SETTING, etc... photos like this make my decision more and more secure that I'll want a 'destination wedding.' Now all I need is the groom...

(I sure do have a lot of choices made without having a wedding to plan!) These are some of my favorites:

This calls for a trip to Japan!

Klein Dytham architecture created this beautiful Leaf chapel... and it is all green! located within the grounds of the Risonare hotel resort in Kobuchizawa it gives off a thought of serenity.

If you use it for a wedding chapel, the steel veil lifts as the brides does to reveal a beautiful pond. check out more pictures here.

More Jessica Claire...

I know I post her photos up here and there, but this one is amazing. The amount of color she manages to get out of her photos is insane.

Wedding Dresses

J Crew always works a ruffle, eyelet, or heavy lace into their bridal work...

Ann Taylor- of course. Classy + elegant.

Style Me Pretty, a site for everything-stylish-wedding, which I (strangely) am obsessed with, highlighted a few new wedding dresses this morning. Some were shown by Project Runway's Austin Scarlett- so cute- and some were shown by other designers. These two were my personal favorites- not that they'd be 'the dress' for me, but I still like them...

Cakes!

I know it's been a while- my apologies. Look at these wedding cakes I just saw on Style Me Pretty- LOVE THEM... and now I want cake.

White Wedding Scheme

I especially love the assortments of flowers!

I know I post a lot regarding weddings, especially for someone who is so far off from planning her own (or finding the person she'll marry), HOWEVER... I've known for a LONG time what kind of color scheme I've wanted- whites. Boring? Not if done-well. You can imagine how thrilled I was this morning to see posts regarding how that should / could be done on Style Me Pretty. I've known for a while that I'll have a stark white dress, and flowers in an off-white / champagne scheme. White looks great with diamonds :) My bridesmaids will have dresses in varying textures / hues of ivory / nude- none WHITE, though... and simpler flowers. My groom- well, at this point I'd like him to exist- I'll work out the details later.

Anyways, check out this image and the others on Style Me Pretty- they also have some guidance as to how to accomplish this look. I'm taking notes.
